Night to Shine is only possible because of incredible volunteers. When you serve, you help create an unforgettable evening where every guest with special needs is celebrated like the royalty they are. From cheering on the red carpet to being paired as a buddy, every role matters.
Volunteer Roles
Buddy Team
Paired with one guest for the night
Escort to activities, dinner, and dance floor
Stay with your guest at all times
Ensure your guest is present for the crowning ceremony
Red Carpet Team
Line the entrance and cheer for each guest
Work with pep band for energy and celebration
Adjust volume/lighting for sensory-sensitive guests
Stay until all guests have arrived
Check-In Team
Welcome and assist guests and volunteers
Hand out name tags and direct to team leaders
Help track attendance and numbers
Coat Check Team
Manage coat/belonging storage
Provide claim tickets and organized retrieval
Photography Team
Capture red carpet, activities, and crowning
Respect photo permissions and guest privacy
Hair & Makeup Team
Provide styling and pampering for guests
Create a warm, welcoming salon atmosphere
Shoe Shine Team
Shine shoes and engage in friendly conversation
Bathroom Attendant Team
Keep facilities clean and stocked
Direct guests appropriately
Ensure guest is never alone with buddy
Floater Team
Fill in where needed across teams
Help with guest transitions and support breaks
Karaoke Team
Run karaoke station and song queue
Encourage performers in a fun, judgment-free space
Respite Room Team
Care for parents and caregivers
Provide refreshments, encouragement, and prayer
Food Service Team
Keep buffet and drink stations stocked
Assist guests with meals
Clear tables throughout the evening
Important Details
Volunteer Training: January 31 · 9:00–10:30 AM at The Church at Tuscaloosa
Event Date: February 13, 2026
Volunteer Check-In: Begins at 4:00 PM
Volunteer Dinner: Provided before the event
All Volunteers in Place By: 5:45 PM
Requirements
Age:
Volunteers under 18 must have a signed parent/guardian permission slip.
Volunteers over 18 must have a background check on file.
Ages 12 and under may serve alongside a parent/guardian on the red carpet, in the respite room, food service, or activity teams (karaoke, game room, sensory).
Dress Code:
Buddies: Formal or semi-formal attire.
All other positions: Business casual/church clothes, unless serving with a team in uniform.
