Day 13

"But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'" - 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NIV)

It’s tempting to look at our lives through the lens of grace and feel as though we’ve been given a free pass in the behavior department. “If God has forgiven me, who says he won’t keep doing it?” That’s a fair question. But, in all love and honesty, it isn’t the right question.

Over the past few years I (Drew) have come to realize that the reason God calls us to be Holy is because of how destructive sin is. Sin always breaks. Sin always has a consequence. So, God’s call to holiness is for OUR good. This is why I say that following Jesus will make your life better. As you align yourself with the will of God and follow the example of Christ you live into God’s best life.

God's call to holiness is not a distant command but an intimate invitation to align our lives with His character. In 1 Peter 1:15-16, the apostle echoes the words from Leviticus, reminding us that the One who calls us is holy, and so we are called to holiness in our daily conduct.

Holiness is not a rigid set of rules but a reflection of God's purity and love manifested in our thoughts, words, and actions. It's an ongoing process of being transformed into the likeness of Christ, allowing His holiness to permeate every aspect of our lives so we can in turn enjoy life more.

Prayer:

Holy Father, thank you for calling us to share in your holiness. Help us to live in a way that reflects your purity and love. May our daily choices and interactions be marked by the holiness you've bestowed upon us through Christ. Guide us in this journey of sanctification. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
