Day 13 - February 19th 2022

READ 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 and 1 Corinthians 12:27

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?

Have you ever watched a Pee Wee soccer game? The team moves in a pack formation rather than in strategic positions. They swarm the ball and even take the ball from other teammates. You’ll often hear their coaches yelling, “Same team! Same team!” This pack formation may not be efficient, but it is fun to watch.

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul calls us toward this idea of “same team.” We don’t need to compete against one another or single out others. We are meant to work together. We each have different gifts, talents, and wirings to be used in coordination with others to represent Jesus to the world. In the same way that a foot and a hand operate differently in the human body, we as individuals act as different but essential parts of the body of Christ. When you spend time with God, you’ll begin to understand more of how He has specifically designed you to be part of what He is up to in this world.

God, teach me how you’ve specifically designed me to love and support those around me through the gifts You’ve given me.
