Day 7: The Faith of Mary and Joseph
And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.” - Luke 1:46-55
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. - Matthew 1:24
Devotional:
Mary’s song of praise, known as the Magnificat, reveals her deep faith and trust in God’s promises. She recognized God’s mercy, faithfulness, and power even before she fully understood what was to come. Joseph’s obedience is equally inspiring; he didn’t question or delay but acted immediately on God’s word. Together, Mary and Joseph model a faith that doesn’t require full understanding but is grounded in trust.
We can learn a lot from the faithful response of Mary and Joseph. Their obedience reminds us that faith is often about taking one step at a time, trusting that God’s promise will unfold in His perfect timing. As we move toward Christmas, may we respond with faith and obedience to God’s whispers and promptings, even if we don’t yet see the full picture.
