Day 25

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ (‭NIV)‬‬

Did you know that mangers were used as feeding troughs for animals? Talk about the humility of our Glorious God coming to Earth as a baby and lying in a manger made for animals to eat out of. Mary and Joseph placed Jesus in the manger to use it as a crib because they had nowhere else to stay, however, I believe the manger has much more significance than just a place for baby Jesus to rest.

As mentioned above, managers were used as feeding troughs, a place where animals came to eat. Fast forward to what Jesus later says In John 6:35. Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

Humans and animals alike, we constantly have to eat food and drink water in order to survive. We simply cannot live very long without them. But this doesn’t have to be the case for your soul.

If we constantly try to fill the void inside us with materialistic joy, we will find ourselves always grasping for more. Always hungry and thirsty for more. Like an animal going back to the trough, we are filled for a little while but eventually, it fades. But when we come to Jesus He is able to fill our hunger and quench our thirst for good. He is able to fill the void within us.

Instead of continuing to chase the fleeting desires of this world, chase after Jesus.

He is the only one who can keep you full.

Prayer:

Dear God, on this joyous Christmas day, we come before you with hearts full of gratitude for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. May the spirit of love, peace, and goodwill fill our homes and communities, uniting us in the warmth of Your divine grace. As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, guide us to share this boundless love with others, spreading the true essence of Christmas throughout the world. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
