We all feel it—that gap, that sense of separation from something greater than ourselves. The Bible calls it sin, the thing that distances us from God and disrupts the life He intended for us. Sin breaks the connection to His love, leaving us unable to fix ourselves, no matter how hard we try. But Jesus had something surprising to say about this struggle. He taught that acknowledging our sin is actually the first step toward a life restored and made whole. As uncomfortable as it may be, recognizing our brokenness is essential; it leads us to the grace only God can provide. This week, as we sing Amazing Grace, let’s reflect on the reality that though we cannot bridge the gap on our own, God's love is already reaching out to meet us.

Discussion Questions:

  1. How do you feel when you hear that sin creates distance between us and God?
Do you see examples of this separation in your own life or in the world around you?

  2. What does it mean to you that "restoration starts with recognition"?
Why might acknowledging our own brokenness be an important first step in reconnecting with God?

  3. Have you ever felt like you’ve tried to “fix” yourself but couldn’t?
What feelings did that bring up, and how does it shape your understanding of God’s grace?

  4. How do you think Jesus’ teaching that “embracing the fact that you are a sinner” leads to something greater?
What role might vulnerability and humility play in deepening our relationship with God?

  5. As we reflect on God’s grace, what steps might we take this week to recognize areas in our lives that need His restoration?
