INTRODUCTION
The thrust of Jesus’ ministry wasn’t about what He taught but rather about who He claimed to be. When He met someone who felt far from God, He invited that person to follow Him. He is inviting you to follow Him too. What’s keeping you from saying yes? And what might be at stake if you say no?
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Read Luke 5:1–11 aloud.
• In verse 5, why do you think Peter agreed to let his nets back out? What might have been his expectation of what would happen?
• In verse 8, why do you think Peter said what he did?
• Does anything else in this passage stand out to you?
Have you ever intentionally disregarded something you felt God prompted you to do? If so, what happened?
Have you ever acted in response to God’s prompting? If so, what happened?
What’s your next step? What is God inviting you to do? What could help you take that next step?
What might hang in the balance of taking that next step?
MOVING FORWARD
John the Baptist was adamant that there should be signs in our lives of the work that we claim God is doing in us. If we really believe what we say we believe, it should be obvious in how we live our lives. Is it obvious in yours?
CHANGING YOUR MIND
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
