Summer on the Mount - Part 3: Deeper than Behavior

Big Idea: Jesus is transforming who we are becoming, not just what we do.

Scripture: Matthew 5:17–30

Supporting: Genesis 12:1–3; Isaiah 49:6; John 8:12; Ephesians 5:8–16; 1 Peter 2:9–12

Jesus does not lower the standard of righteousness; He deepens it. He fulfills the Law and then moves beneath external behavior to the heart. In His teaching on anger and lust, Jesus reveals that real transformation is not just about avoiding the most obvious sins, but about allowing God to transform the desires, reactions, resentments, and impulses beneath the surface.

Discussion Questions:

1. Where do you most often feel the gap between “looking okay” and actually being okay?

2. What would it look like this week to stop managing what Jesus wants to transform?

3. Is there a conversation, confession, boundary, act of forgiveness, or step of surrender Jesus may be inviting you into?
